Sep 7, 2014 12:55 PM

The Toronto Blue Jays are in the market for a second baseman and they appear to have their sights on Gordon Beckham of the Chicago White Sox.

The Blue Jays first approached the White Sox about Beckham last offseason and Alex Anthopoulos has renewed his interest. He is intent on upgrading at second base.

Beckham is eligible for arbitration this offseason and remains under club control through the 2015 campaign.

Reds Aren't Discussing Trade Involving Phillips

Jul 22, 2014 4:44 PM

Walt Jocketty has denied rumors that the Cincinnati Reds are already looking to move Brandon Phillips.

"[Phillips] texted wanting to know if we were trading him. I told him that I have not spoken to anybody about that," Jocketty said. "I'm not talking to any clubs about him."

With that said, he wouldn't say that anyone is untouchable.

"I'm not saying that," Jocketty said. "We've got some things we've got to look at on how we're going to improve our club. I'm not going to say nobody is untouchable. Obviously, we want to keep as much of this club intact as we can."

Tigers Haven't Seriously Discussed Trading Scherzer

Nov 27, 2014 12:47 AM

Dave Dombrowski insists that the Detroit Tigers haven't held serious talks about trading presumed Cy Young winner Max Scherzer.

"Anyone who says that has been discussed on a serious level is wrong," Dombrowski said of dealing Scherzer, who can become a free agent after the 2014 season.

Despite Detroit's stance, many executives believe Scherzer will be placed on the block this winter.

"It might be posturing to try to influence Scherzer to engage in a long-term contract," an AL executive said. "Try to scare him that he will get traded so he can pressure [agent] Scott Boras. It won't work, but I think that's the tactic."

The 32-year-old is owed $50 million through the 2017 season.

Orioles Unlikely To Pursue Trade For Price

Sep 18, 2014 7:44 AM

The Baltimore Orioles are in need of an ace for their pitching staff, but don't expect them to go after David Price.

"Price could be on the trade market this winter," writes Steve Melewski. "I have a hard time even considering that Tampa Bay would trade him within the division and that, if the Rays did, the O's would have enough to get him - and would be willing to do it.

"Every team wants an ace, but there are not many in the game."

The Tampa Bay Rays are expected to shop Price this winter before he is able to become a free agent.
